Elsen Tasarkhai, otherwise known as the Little Gobi are majestic golden sand dunes. These sand dunes spread for around 80 km across 3 of the 21 provinces of Mongolia: Tuv, Bulgan, and Uvurkhangai.

Located a 4-hour drive from the capital city, Ulaanbaatar, this location is perfect if you would like to see Mongolian golden sand not too far from the capital. Elsen Tasarkhai is a very popular destination for Mongolians. In fact of the wide expanse, a certain area of the golden sand is quite close to the tarmac road that travelers take when going on a journey to Kharkhorin or Karakorum, the ancient Mongol capital.
