The Darkhad Depression is a beautiful low land rift valley,  created by tectonic activity that lays in parallel to Khuvsgul Lake valley.

It remains a significant water area with more than 200 lakes in the same place and several big rivers that make one of the sources of Yenisey River in Russia.

There are 3 soums or towns in this depression with Darhad and Tuvan ethnic group people of Mongolia.

There are 3 different strictly protected national parks established in 1997 and expanded in 2011.  This is one of the must-visit places of Mongolia during any season of unparalleled beauty.
