It is the Monastery complex of Tranquil Felicity.
This beautiful complex found in 1727 and funded by the Manchurian emperor is dedicated to Zanabazar, the first head lama for Mongolian Buddhism also referred to as Leonardo Da Vinci of the 17th century. It said that his remains were transferred to this monastery complex in 1779. He was of golden blood or king’s blood and aged 88 years.
The complex originally consisted of over 40 temples and buildings laid out on parallel sides.
Amarbayasgalant was one of the very few monasteries which partly escaped during the communist purge in 1937-1939. Many lamas executed and a lot of monastery artifacts including statues, tanka, sutras looted and destroyed, although some returned from being hidden until modern days.
Today, with 28 buildings, 30-50 lamas, most of whom are teenagers, run this monastery complex all year round. Restoration work took the place in 1988 and added a shining golden buddha statue and large Stupa on the hills behind the Monastery.
