This terrain of the Southern parts of Mongolia consists of Gobi Altai Mountain and Gobi Dessert. The Gobi Desert is massive, measuring over 1,600 km (1,000 mi) from southwest to northeast and 800 km (500 mi) from north to south from the Tibetan plateau to the Gobi Altai Mountain range. The Gurvan Saikhan or the Three Beauties Mountain range stretches across the territory of the Gurvan Saikhan National park. The highest peak of the range is Zuunsaikhan at 2350m (7710 ft) in altitude.
The climate of the Gobi is continental and dry. It can be a surprisingly cold location with severe and dry winters with snow occasionally occurring on its dunes. The temperature ranges from −40 °C/−40.0 °F) in winter and 45 °C/113 °F during summer.
Combined with rapid temperature changes, the climate of the Gobi is one of the great extremes of the World.
The drainage of the area is, as expected, mostly underground. Most rivers here only flow during summertime.
The Southern parts of Mongolia have unique wildlife as well as domestic animals. The local animal life consists of wild camels, gazelle, antelope, kulan, reptiles, etc. While locals also tend to have Bactrian camels with two humps.
